Caterpillars - Term 1

Week beginning 9th October 2023

The end of the term is almost here but we have continued to keep busy with our learning. Take a peek...

Week beginning 2nd October 2023

Another fabulous week of learning in Caterpillars.

Week beginning Monday 25th September 2023

Hello again to all our Caterpillar families. This week has, at times, appeared a little surreal! Alongside preparations for our Harvest celebration in church, we have also created Christmas artwork!

In amongst it all, we have continued to prove just what amazing learners we are...

We have also been gathering lots of information about astronauts this week in preparation for our writing task next week. Check back soon to look at our Fact Files!

There are lots of fabulous shows and videos to find out more facts at home. Click on the links below, but remember internet safety- always check with a grown-up before going online.

'Maddie, space and you' is a great series for children all about space and can be found on iplayer.

It was lovely to see so many of our Caterpillar families join us on Thursday for our Harvest festival. We hope you enjoyed our singing!

Just a reminder...

Please try and hear your child read for a short time every day. Little and often really is best. Don't forget to record in your child's reading log book each time you hear them so we can see how frequently they are practising their reading at home. We are already getting lots of completed bookmarks coming in which is fantastic. Keep it up caterpillars!

Week beginning Monday 18th September 2023

It's been another busy week in Caterpillars Class. Have a look at what we have been up to...

In our maths fluency sessions this week, we have been exploring doubles, halves and number bonds of 10 and 20. We played a great game called 'Hit the Button' to help us to practise these skills. Click on the link below to play the game again...

Week beginning Monday 11th September 2023

We are so proud of all our caterpillars with such a busy week and with some very special visitors around the school. Here's a little of our learning to share with you...

Week beginning Monday 4th September 2023

A huge 'Welcome back!' to everyone after, what we hope has been, a wonderful summer holiday.

Our curriculum theme in Term 1 is...

We will find out about the Moon Landing as part of our History learning, explore continents and oceans in Geography, get creative with colour wheels and examine the wonderful art work of Peter Thorpe. We will also investigate levers and sliders within Design Technology.

Full details of all our curriculum learning this term will be uploaded soon. Watch this space!

A few reminders...

Our P.E. day is Wednesday. Your child will need to wear their P.E. kit to school on this day. Many of our P.E. lessons will be outside as long as the weather is fair - P.E. hoodies and jogging bottoms may be preferable as the temperature drops! Please refer to the school uniform guidance, following the link on the website, to check that your child has the correct uniform/ P.E. kit.

The lost property bin at school is often overflowing. Avoid lost items by labelling your child's clothing. Named items tend to find their way back to their owners quite quickly.

Your child will be bringing home their reading book at the beginning of the week. Please take time to listen to your child read for about 5 or 10 minutes every day and record in their Reading Log books. A short burst of reading every day can really boost reading confidence! A reading bookmark will be given to your child to be signed by you each day they read. Five completed bookmarks will enable your child to choose 'a book to keep' from Mrs Ransley.

Don't forget to log on to Bug Club regularly too to try out the books, games and activities that have been allocated for your child. If you are having any difficulty logging on, or have any questions about phonics or reading, please do ask or drop me an email.

In addition to completing activities from the Home Learning grid this term, weekly maths learning for Year 1 and for Year 2 will be uploaded to the Home Learning page.

We are looking forward to a term packed full of creative learning, fantastic challenges and, of course, plenty of fun!

Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or concerns.

Here is a little of our learning from this week. Take a peek...
