We have had a super busy first week back from our break. This week, we have been exploring the Season of Autumn...
Welcome back to all our Fireflies and their families. We hope you enjoyed the half term break.
This term our theme is...
As you can tell, we will be reaching for the moon in this term's learning as we find out about the first moon landing in our History lessons. Our art work will also take on a space theme as we explore the art of Peter Thorpe and create our own rocket inspired paintings.
Alongside our daily phonics and maths sessions, our English lessons will see us trying our hand at Autumn poetry, creating a diary entry from the point of view of an alien, writing instructions to build a rocket, creating fact files and making a pop-up book about the moon landing. Moving on from our drawing club activities, Fireflies will also be introduced to Curious Quests as part of our English learning this term. We will certainly be kept busy!
Our science lessons this term will focus on exploring everyday materials. We will identify the properties of different materials, create a waterproof jacket for our class bear and investigate which material is the stretchiest.
Kav will still be with us this term to teach us gymnastics each Friday so please ensure your child comes to school in their P.E. kit on these days. We will continue with our focus on Online Safety within our computing lessons to support our children to stay safe when using devices both at home and at school. Our P.S.H.E lessons will help us in 'Celebrating Differences' this term with the help of Jigsaw Jo...
Of course, the learning continues with Music lessons, R.E. which, in the lead up to Christmas, will focus on Advent and the Christmas story. We will also particiapte in Mindfulness Mondays, weekly Reading Theatre and guided reading sessions, ERIC time and handwriting. Phew!
Just a reminder of how you can support your child at home by hearing them read daily and supporting them with their home learning activities. Fill in a square on the book mark each time you hear your child read. 5 completed book marks will entitle your child to claim a free book to keep from Mrs Ransley's book case. Don't forget to log onto Bug Club to explore new reading books and games too.
Your child will bring home the new Home Learning challenge grid this week. Every child who completes 4 or more home learning challenges during the term will recieve a certificate at the end of the term. Well done for all those who acheived this in Term 1! In addition to this, weekly maths challenges will be set by Mrs Chapman (Year 1) and Mrs Walker (Year 2) and can be found on the Home Learning page. This is a great way to continue the learning at home and to give your child additional practice in developing their maths skills.
We are looking forward to a fantastic term of learning. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please do get in touch.
