Fireflies - Years 1 and 2

Welcome Back Fireflies!

A huge welcome back to all our Fireflies and their families. I hope you have enjoyed a super summer and are ready for the excitement of a new year at school.

This term, our learning is based around the theme of...

In Geography, we will be exploring our local area; identifying physical and human features and getting to grips with reading and drawing our own maps.

During our Design Technology lessons, we will learn about sliders, levers and linkages and will design and create our own moving pictures.

Daily maths and phonics sessions, following the Power Maths and Bug Club programmes of study, will help keep these key skills in tip-top form.

Our English lessons will be based on the following texts...

As part of our English learning, we will be exploring elements of 'Drawing Club', which some of your children will be familiar with, as well as 'Curious Quests'- details coming soon!

A few reminders:

P.E. lessons for Terms 1, 2 and 3 will take place each Friday. Please ensure your child is wearing the correct P.E. kit on these days-details can be found on the school website. For health and safety reasons, long hair should be tied back, and NO earrings should be worn on these days. We are unable to tape these up at school.

Your child will bring home with them a reading book, as well as a set of phonic sounds and tricky words they are currently learning in class. Please take 10 minutes each day to support your child in developing their reading skills by listening to them read and helping them to practise and secure their phonic and tricky word knowledge. Don't forget, you can also log on to the Bug Club website to access additional books and games. Reading is a key indicator of future life success-investing a little time each day to support your child with their reading will help them secure a brighter future. If you are unsure of how you can help at home, please do not hesitate to ask for guidance. We truly appreciate your support.

Did you know... If you complete 5 bookmarks this term, you can choose a book to keep from Mrs Ransley's book collection!

With the cost of living at an all-time high, we want to make sure your hard-earned money is not wasted. Please name everything your child brings to school, including coats, jumpers, lunch boxes and water bottles. Although your child will have a tray and locker to keep their possessions safe, items do get mislaid at times. Items that are clearly named are more likely to be safely returned to their owner. It also saves you having to rummage around in the lost property bin after school!

Each term, you will find activities to try out with your child at home that support and continue the learning taking place in class. Click on 'Home Learning' from the menu at the top of the page to find them. If your child is in Year 1, weekly maths challenges will be uploaded by Mrs Chapman. If your child is in Year 2, weekly maths challenges will be uploaded by Mrs Walker. Topic challenges can also be found on the home learning page or click on the link below. (available soon)

Children who complete 4 or more challenges each term will receive a certificate in recognition of their hard work.

We are looking forward to a busy but rewarding and fun term. Please check back regularly as I will upload photos of our learning each Friday. If you have any questions, worries or concerns, please arrange time for a chat or send a message...
