Summer Offers for Children and Young People

We were recently informed by Kent County Council (KCC) that they are running ‘Summer Offers for Children and Young People’. The Kent community is uniting to give children and young people a summer of fun and opportunities. From free bus travel and discounted 6-week leisure centre passes through to summer learning and a guide to what’s on, Reconnect has something for children and young people of all ages.

Free bus travel for young people age 11 – 18 this summer!

We have been advised by KCC that we should receive a bus pass for each eligible child before we break up for summer. Local bus companies have agreed to generously support a summer travel offer. All pupils in Years 6 to 13 (age 11-18 year olds) will be able to travel free on buses in Kent. They will receive a physical bus pass, which will be sent out to schools this week. We will send them home with children as soon as we receive them.

Leisure Centre Passes

Most leisure centres in Kent have united behind Reconnect and agreed to offer a 6-week membership pass for £25 per child, discounted by Reconnect to £10 for those on benefits-related free school meals (FSM). Families on FSM will be able to use the Reconnect Discount Voucher with their chosen participating leisure centre to access this offer.

The list the school has received does not include Folkestone Sports Centre, so you may wish to contact the local sports centre to check they are participating in the summer programme prior to purchasing your leisure passes. If you are eligible for FSM you will receive a discounted voucher for a leisure pass where you can then purchase a 6-week pass for £10.00. This will be sent in the same way as the supermarket vouchers that you have received over the last year.

Holiday Activities Programme (HAF)

The Holiday Activities Programme in Kent provides healthy, nutritious food and exciting, enriching activities for children and young people during the school holidays. Families of children aged 4 to 16 years, who are eligible for benefits related to free school meals, can access these opportunities in the summer holidays for free. The HAF Programme aims to support the physical and mental health and wellbeing of children and young people in Kent, encouraging them to engage in interactive and fun activities and provide them with access to nutritious food.
This programme is funded by the Department for Education (DfE) to provide support for eligible families in Kent to access these holiday activities for free. If you are eligible for FSM you will receive your supermarket vouchers each week for 6 weeks at £15 and an activity voucher will be emailed/text to you for you to prove your eligibility on a Holiday Activities Programme if you wish to sign up for one.
Please see the link below for a list of funded HAF Programmes.

There are also lots of other learning opportunities over the summer; please see the leaflet attached below for more information.
