Ladybirds' Learning - Term 3

Week beginning 7th February 2022

Last week was another busy one in Ladybird class...

We enjoyed the story 'Simon Sock' by Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet. You can hear it retold by 'Story Train' on YouTube by clicking on the picture below. Please remember Internet safety-always have a grown-up with you when using the internet.

As we are nearing the end of our 'Dinosaur Roar' topic, we spent time in the 'hot seat' this week answering questions to show the knowledge we have gained. How many questions can you answer?

Now that many of the children are showing confidence in their recognition of digraphs and trigraphs why not play 'Pick a Picture' from Phonics Play to practise those sounds in a fun way? Select 'Phase 3 digraphs'.

Week beginning 31st January 2022

We hope you had a lovely weekend! Here's what the Ladybird Learners got up to last week...

We explored 'rhymes' this week too. Here's a game you can play at home to help you find rhyming pairs- words that sound similar such as 'star' and 'car'. Listen carefully, can you hear that rhyming words share the same end sound?

Click on the picture below to play the game. If you find the rhyming pairs you will uncover dinosaur bones- PREHISTORIC!

We discovered this week that we are actually quite talented artists!

Towards the end of the week we went on a trip...

Thank you to Reverend Stephen and everyone at All Souls' Church who very kindly gave us some goody bags to take home with us!

And finally, we want to say a huge 'Well done!' to our reading stars this week. These are children who have read their reading book, or completed a Bug Club book or game, on at least 4 days between 17.1.22 and 23.1.22

Don't forget, re-reading each book will help your child become more confident and fluent in their reading. Children should be reading these books independently as they will only bring home books with letter sounds that they are familiar with. If you have any concerns about your child's reading do please let me know...

Well done also to Farley, James, Sebastian, Rosa and Evie who have learned all their Phase 3 tricky words. We listened to a song that can help us learn to spot these pesky tricky words. Click on the picture below to hear it again...

Here's what the Ladybirds got up to last week...

We would like to say a special 'Well Done!' to our reading stars below this week. To become a reading star, you need to read your reading book, or complete a Bug Club book or phonics game on at least 4 days each week. Ask your grown up to date and write a comment in the log book each time you read so that we can add your name to our reading stars.

Note for parents/Carers: Thank you for all your continued support in helping your child with their reading at home. We want to recognise the fantastic contribution you make to your child's reading progress so please do add a short comment in the log book every time your hear your child read; whether it is a Bug Club book or activity or the reading book they bring home. We are hoping to arrange for some prizes for those who have appeared on our Reading Stars on 5 occasions as a reward for their continued efforts. Happy reading!

Week beginning 3rd January 2022

A big welcome back to all our Ladybird families. We hope you had an enjoyable Christmas break and wish you all a very...

We are getting ready to begin our new topic of 'Dinosaur Roar' this term. Do check back regularly to find out what we get up to in our learning.

A few reminders...

Our P.E. day is Monday. Your child needs to come to school dressed in their P.E. kits ready for our lesson, this includes plimsolls or trainers. School uniform and school shoes are not appropriate for our gymnastic, dance and sports sessions. If wearing earrings, these will need to be removed at home or will be taped up at school for health and safety reasons.

Please remember to send in your child's reading log book, in the protective wallet provided, every day. Although your child will not receive a new reading book each day we may use the log book to send home messages from the class teacher. New books and phonic games have been added to your child's Bug Club account so do take time to log on to Bug Club each week.

We are going to be acknowledging those children who read regularly at home on our web page each week so do please make a note in the log book every time you hear your child read and let us know how they get on. Practice really does pay off as we have already spotted some fabulous reading this week from...

 Great job!!

Finally, don't forget to try out our weekly home learning challenges. This week is a snowflake challenge.

You can find our challenges by clicking on 'Home Learning' on the menu on the right-hand side.

We are really looking forward to a fun term learning to become Palaeontologists and finding out all about the dinosaurs that once roamed our world. If you have any questions or concerns please do get in touch- you can pass messages on via the office or at the beginning of the day with the member of staff on our gate or you can email me:
