Home Learning - Years 1 & 2
Week beginning 20th July 2020
Firstly, may we all say a massive WELL DONE to all our wonderful KS1 pupils and families! You have been absolutely fantastic at quickly adapting to a new way of life, dealing with a great amount of change and still taking on the challenge of completing home learning. You are all incredible and deserve a big round of applause!
We really could not have continued to provide a form of education for your children without your efforts and support. You have been patient with us and understood that we too needed to adapt to the changes and that it hasn't always been smooth. Your support and communication has really helped us to be able to run in the way in which we have for the past four months, so again, we THANK YOU for this.
In the attachments below you will find a special certificate made by your Class Teacher, we hope you may be able to print one off at home to remind you of how great you have been with your friends this year!
We hope that by now you have received your child's report and are as pleased as we are with the achievements and progress they have made with us this year. It is now time, for us to hand over our pupils to their new classes and new teachers.
Normally, we would spend a few days at school preparing the children for this transition, providing them with opportunities to meet their new teacher and classmates, unfortunately, as you know, we can not provide that opportunity this year. To help with this change, we have put together a few Summer and transition activities that you may like to use to help prepare for September.
If you are currently in Year 2 and will be moving up to Year 3 in September, we have some exciting news for you! Mrs Brinkley will be leaving our Year 1/2 Team and transitioning up to Year 3/4 with you! She will be learning lots of new things, just like you! She has put together some transition activities and a letter for you - you will need to look at the year 3/4 home learning page to find this! She's looking forward to moving on up with you all!
We know, that when your children come back into school, they may well be nervous, as well as yourselves. This is only natural but we can promise you, we will welcome your children back with big smiles, open arms and love that we give them every year. We will take the new journey slowly with them and make sure that they are emotionally ready to learn again. Please remember, children are incredibly resilient, a lot more than some of us as adults, and they will respond and cope with the change, just as they have with the past weeks.
You will know that as a school, we have not closed throughout the lock down and we have remained open during what would usually be our half terms. We are committed as a team of Key Stage 1 staff but also as a whole staff to ensure the best education for your children as much as we are committed to keeping them and yourselves as safe as we possibly can. (We have families at home too which we must protect!) Please remember, this is new to all of us, and we will undoubtedly still face challenges from September and you will have many questions, some, which we may not be able to solve straight away but we are all human and trying our very best in everything we are faced with.
In the home learning section you will find Summer reading. This is a list made up of all the staffs' recommended reads. Take a look and pick a book, we hope you enjoy them as much as we do!
For now, pop your home learning packs to one side, breathe and smile! YOU HAVE MADE IT!
We wish all our pupils and their families a very well earned and restful summer break, soak up the sun and remain safe and well.
We are so very much looking forward to seeing more faces in school with us in September,
The Key Stage One Team,
Mrs Andrews, Mrs Brinkley, Miss Ottaway and Mrs Harvey
