Fireflies - Years 1 and 2

Welcome back to Term 5 Fireflies! We hope you enjoyed a lovely break.

It is a short term, however, we will be packing in a lot of learning. Our minibeast focus will weave through a number of our subjects, including English and Art. We will be enjoying a Springtime walk to look for signs of the season and also go on a minibeast hunt!

Our English lessons this term will see us exploring and writing our own Spring-themed poetry, writing recounts and minibeast riddles. We will also use Anansi the Spider stories from West Africa to practise our storytelling skills before writing our own versions of the 'Anansi and the Farmer'.

'

R.E. lessons will explore the question 'Who is Jewish and what do they believe?'. Designing and making healthy sandwiches will be our D.T. focus and in I.C.T. we will explore programming using the Beebots. In music, we will continue to develop our understanding of pulse, rhythm and pitch and enjoy composing our own pieces to play on the xylophones.

Daily phonics, maths fluency and Power Maths lessons complete the learning this term.

This term our focus is on 'striking and fielding'. We will be throwing under and overarm to a teammate, striking off a tee and into a space, and learning a few tactics based on a cricket theme.

Just a reminder that Fireflies P.E. lessons are still on Mondays!

Our P.S.H.E lessons will be based on relationships...

Don't forget to hear your child read for a short time each day and, Fireflies, remember to bring in 5 completed bookmarks to swap for a book to keep from Mrs Ransley. Well done to all those who have already won a book prize for doing so – you are superstars!

Home learning challenges should appear soon on the Home Learning page, along with Year 1  Maths challenges (set by Mrs Chapman) and Year 2 Maths challenges (set by Mrs Walker). Aim to complete all maths challenges and at least 4 topic challenges to earn a certificate at the end of the term.

We are looking forward to a busy term of learning. Please check back each week to see what we have been up to and, if you have any worries or concerns, do get in touch...
